An abundance has been talked in the press recently about the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax cuts to help keep the industry afloat. But can the web adaptation of this quintessential game offer a salvation, or might it not compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo is an ancient game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had undergone a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enacting of the anti cigarette law across United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular places where folks like to smoke.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the business is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Surely they haven’t forgotten this familiar game?

The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a cocktail and smoke and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the web will never replace the social portion of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the law has left a good many bingo players with little option.
