Can the Smoking Ban in England Take Bingo Players On to the Web?

A lot has been reported in the press recently regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However can the online version of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo is an classic game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law throughout Britain.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlours. Numbers have dropped and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t deserted this established game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers are now realizing that they can wager on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cig and still enjoy big cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course betting on online is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
