An abundance has been stated in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But can the internet variation of this traditional game present a escape, or will it never compare to its real life peer?

Bingo has been an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent resurgence in appeal with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the enacting of the smoking ban around United Kingdom.

No more will enthusiasts be able to puff on cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite places where players enjoy smoking.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Surely they haven’t abandoned this ancient game?

The answer is online. Players know that they can bet on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the rules have left a lot of bingo players with no option.
